Reasoning Unit: Educator facilitation

Your teaching material for the Reasoning unit. (To learn the content yourself first, work through the Parlays, Probability & Expected Value lesson in My Learning. To preview what students do, open the Decode a Saturday lab.)

Anchor the unit on the EV lesson, then run Decode a Saturday as the class lab — students analyze a peer's slip and never place a bet.

Suggested pacing

| Day | Activity | | --- | --- | | 1 | Teach EV vocabulary — project the lesson study pages | | 2 | Run the Decode a Saturday lab together; pause before the 100-round reveal so students predict the math | | 3 | Debrief the distortions, then assign the house-edge exit ticket |

Debrief prompts after the lab

  • Which hook in the feed felt most convincing before we named it?
  • The slip felt like a lock. Why did the math drain the bankroll anyway?
  • What would you actually text a friend who's "running it back" to get even?

Watch for

  • "I follow this team, so I know" — illusion of control.
  • "It's basically free money" — payout bias and manufactured social proof.
  • Chasing language after a loss.
