Where Gambling Hides in Games
Catalog the digital product categories where gambling structure shows up most often in a young person's life: loot boxes, gacha, social casinos, skins, packs, DFS, and sportsbook content.

Overview
Self-paced study flow — not the projector or class assignment view. Read the pages, then complete the check when you are ready.
Lesson 2 of the Recognition Unit
You already have the stake + chance + prize framework from Lesson 1. Now you will use it on the products that do not call themselves gambling.
This is where the framework earns its keep. A 14-year-old has not opened a sportsbook account. They have opened a Pokemon pack, spent money on Robux, watched a friend pull a skin on stream, and downloaded a free-to-play casino app. Every one of these fits the framework. The label does not.
By the end of the next 35 minutes you will be able to walk through the most common digital product categories, name where each one fits on the gambling spectrum, and explain why "no cash payout" or "it's a game" does not change the structure.
What you will be able to do
- Name 4+ digital products that share gambling structure.
- Apply the framework to a digital product you have never used yourself.
- Explain why branding ("game", "skill", "social", "free") does not change the risk pattern.
How long this takes
About 35 minutes. Each page has a short knowledge check you can try as you go; those do not count toward mastery. The 6-question check at the end is the one that does.
Outcomes
- Name 4+ digital products that share gambling structure.
- Apply the stake + chance + prize framework to a digital product you have not used yourself.
- Recognize that branding (“it's a game”, “no cash payout”, “it's skill”) does not change the structure.
- Translate any in-game currency (Robux, V-Bucks, Primogems, FC Points) back into the dollar value that bought it.
Shortcut
Skip the pages and try the 6-question check now. You can come back to study any time.
